Plant-derived squalane is the clean-label replacement for shark-derived squalene, and this material is hydrogenated from olive squalene sourced in Spain and Italy. The plant-origin chain is fully auditable, and the material is 99%-plus pure by GC with a peroxide value under 2 meq/kg.
The low peroxide value and fully saturated profile give strong oxidative stability, which is why formulators choose squalane as the occlusive anchor in anhydrous oils, balms and leave-on creams at 2–10% use.
