Calculating Cosmetic Peptide Active Concentration

A powder purity result and a solution concentration are different inputs; establish the active mass basis before calculating a peptide addition.

Identify the active being counted

Record the exact peptide, supplied form and full composition. For a blend, request each peptide concentration and the basis of the ratio. HPLC area purity, net peptide content and concentration in a preparation need explicit definitions. Do not substitute a chromatographic area percentage for a mass fraction unless the supplier documents that relationship.

Calculate on one mass basis

For mass fractions, 1 ppm equals 1 mg/kg and 1% equals 10,000 ppm. Required supplied-material mass equals target active mass divided by the documented active mass fraction of the supplied material. Express the fraction as a decimal and keep the units visible. An illustrative target of 100 ppm in 1 kg is 100 mg active; a preparation documented as 1% active by mass would require 10 g. This example is arithmetic, not a recommended use level.

Verify the weigh-up and process

Have a second reviewer check the current TDS, target basis, batch size and calculation. Confirm balance suitability, incorporation sequence, temperature exposure and preservation requirements for the preparation. Test the complete formula. Do not copy a suggested addition percentage from a solution to a neat powder or assume two trade-name comparisons have the same composition.

Compare the approaches

Powder vs Prepared solution
ApproachWhat to check
PowderConfirm net peptide content, water and counter-ions before assay correction.
Prepared solutionConfirm active mass concentration, carrier and preservation before conversion.

A higher area-purity number does not automatically imply more active per gram of supplied material.

Apply the distinction to a sample brief

For GHK-Cu, state whether the target means the copper complex or another analytical basis. For a Matrixyl-type blend, request the amount of each peptide instead of applying one assumed purity to the whole blend. Document each assumption before preparing a laboratory batch.
